Barahdari

An Enchanted Monsoon Phase
In Indian culture, the monsoon season has traditionally been celebrated as a magical time of sensuality, poetry, and longing.
A culture of romance: Rulers would use the approach of the rains as an occasion to retreat with their lovers, consorts, or courtly courtesans to pleasure pavilions designed specifically for this purpose.
Architecture for the senses: Known as barahdaris (pavilions), these structures were built along rivers and lakes, designed to allow for an intense experience of the cooling breeze, the sound of the water, and a host of other sensory impressions.
